Good Friday, Good News!

Happy Easter my friend! I know many of you may be saying to yourself – “what is happy about this Easter?”. Well, I believe there is a lot to be grateful for. You are alive, you are healthy, you are able to see yet another day. I believe this in itself is good news. Additionally, remember, this too shall pass and you will have a new found appreciation for the things that you once took for granted. This is the first Easter that people will stay home with their families (or alone) as the case may be, not by choice but by design. Let’s remember to reach out to those who need a word of encouragement or assurance that there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel.

Today is Good Friday. Good Friday provides the opportunity to proclaim, “once you’ve been to the Cross, everything changes.” The Cross changes everything. What does it mean having been to the Cross? The message of the Cross remains a gift of Love to those undeserving. Above all, the Cross is a symbol of Love. So many gaze at the Cross and yet hold on to past hurt, pain, and problems. They don’t belong on your back any longer – Jesus has taken them on His. The debt is paid. Look to the Cross and receive your salvation. If something’s pursuing you, then perhaps the event that will change everything for you is the Cross. If nothing is changing, maybe you haven’t been to the Cross. Jesus was falsely accused and crucified. Many did not understand him and because of this they chose to persecute Him. What have you been falsely accused of? When have you stood up for what is right, what is true and people still chose to “stone you”? Calling you all sorts of names; saying to you “you think you are better than us, you think you will get far with your honestly, in such corrupt times, how do you expect to survive by being so straight and narrow?”

I want to remind you today that God never forsakes His children. He did not forsake Jesus and He will never forsake you. I know times are difficult. We are uncertain about tomorrow but God never changes. He remains the same. We may not have a cure for COVID-19 but we have Jesus. Let us put our trust in Him. Let us remember that He died for our sins and that he came so that we may have life and have it in abundance. He will heal our land. Ours is to do our bit. To repent, call upon His name and He will wipe every tear from our eyes.

Easter is indeed about the empty tomb. It is a time to repent. To make our walk right with God. To start afresh and crucify ourselves, our sin, our selfish desires, our independence from God and ask Him to come into our lives and save us. God desires to have a relationship with you. He desires to be your friend. He stands at the door knocking, why don’t you let Him in today?
